Our responsible lending commitment
We want every borrower to take only the credit they can repay. That is why we show APRs, fees, and total cost clearly on every Regional Finance page.
- We never promise guaranteed approval
- We never charge you to submit a loan request
- We show representative costs, not just monthly payments
- We point you to free, non-profit help when borrowing is not the right answer
Before you borrow from Regional Finance or any lender
- Name the need. Is this an emergency, or can it wait while you save?
- Borrow the minimum. Every extra dollar borrowed adds interest and fees.
- Check affordability. Keep total monthly debt payments, including the new loan, well within your budget. Lenders look at your debt-to-income ratio for the same reason.
- Compare total cost. Look at APR and total of payments, not only the monthly payment.
- Read the TILA disclosure. The Truth in Lending Act disclosure lists the APR, finance charge, and total of payments.
Warning signs of a debt trap
- Taking a new loan to make payments on an old one
- Renewing or refinancing repeatedly without lowering the balance
- Using credit for regular monthly bills
- Cashing a live check you did not request
Alternatives to consider
Credit union loans
Federal credit unions cap most loan APRs at 18%, and some offer small-dollar alternative loans.
Payment plans
Medical providers, utilities, and repair shops often offer interest-free plans if you ask.
Non-profit credit counseling
A counselor can review your budget and may set up a debt management plan.
Hardship programs
Existing creditors may lower payments temporarily if you explain your situation early.
If you are struggling with payments
Call your lender before you miss a payment and ask about options. You can find free resources at the CFPB and report scams to the FTC.
